old work, new work

Drown, 2007-2010
fabric, monofilament, antique brass hooks,
real & artificial moss collected by hand, plaster,
glue, paint, suitcase, lights, cinefoil, electricity.
installation dimensions approximately 7 x 4 x 2 feet

It's funny how application season makes you re-examine what's in your studio. I made these sealskins in 2007, but I keep coming back to them and re installing them...trying to get closer to how I see them in my mind. Lately, that's been my primary studio occupation...trying to make physical those indescribable atmospheres in which I imagine my sculptures. I am getting closer, but I still don't have it quite right. I think maybe there is a section of architectural molding missing here...and perhaps some floor.

Muppets, Thesis, Salad and Tears.

It is only Tuesday. The week has already been giving me a run for my money. Literally. I almost lost my enrollment at RISD, due to a grand shit-soufflee of administrative cut-backs, tiny-typos, human error, beurocratic disorganization and an overal reluctance on the part of the financial aid offices to help students who are spending their asumed life savings to go to this insane school. Thus, the aforementioned tears of frustration and panic.

The tears were stopped by one Charlotte Potter, and her team of Graduate Studies powerhouses.

She is the True Believer.

In improving news, movies have been projected, exotic cocktails have been concocted, and possibly the greatest salad ever came into being.

The Tiny Tuna oversaw the makings of one delicious salad,
and blessed it upon completion. see above.

(Nellie: here are the ingredients: mixed greens, chevre, dried cranberries, fresh strawberries, pecans, grapefruit wedges and balsamic vinaigrette. Sorry, no arugula in this one)

And then the Muppets (submitted by one George Terry) provided a needed and perfect break from writing (which with this blog posting devolves into pure procrastination). George and I sat in the truck the other night outside the Stop & Shop, and laughed ourselves silly when this came on the local radio.

OK, back to the thesis zone.

Hold Up

Netflix has hidden art porn all over it's instant play selection...they don't think I'll like Caligula, but I'm gonna watch it anyway, after FRANCESCO VEZZOLI's insane re-make of the opening scene that was played at the last Whitney Biennial...

man on wire

philipe petit.

streaming on netflix.
another one to watch late at night, quietly.
aside from being a spectaculalr story, there is eric satie music, hilarious homemade interlude/re-enactments, and the two incredible repititions of the word "murmur" (with a french accent it sounds like "meuwwmeuww").

really good pictures, finally

My Lovely friend Jori Ketten brought her wide angle lens and her awesomeness to the Chace Center, and took some really great pictures for me today.
